Site Goal

The goal of this site is to present all Lil Wayne lyrics completely and accurately.

Lyrics

The best place to get lyrics for any song is by listening to the song itself and transcribing it. While it can be helpful to search for lyrics using Google to get a reference point, more often that not, these transcriptions contain typographical and/or listening errors and must be carefully reviewed for accuracy before inclusion on this site.

I would rather have a few songs thoughtfully transcribed than a lot of songs riddled with errors. There are bound to be some errors, but let's minimize them as best we can.

Line by line

No need to punctuate the end of every line unless the line ends in an exclamation or a question mark.

WTF is Lil Wayne Saying in...

Instances where the lyrics are difficult or impossible to understand should be noted using the following syntax:

{{Q|[_____ ?]}}

This syntax calls the template named "Q" which will insert a line and a question mark by turning the text a bold red. You can replace the ______ with your best guess for the word in question.

Slang

When it comes to transcribing slang, it is preferred to write the word properly (e.g., them instead of dem or playing instead of playin' or 'cause instead of 'cuz) unless the pronunciation is particularly different or unusual.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks to other sites (most notably to Wikipedia and the Urban Dictionary) should be used to clarify and/or explain various references in each song. If neither Wikipedia nor the Urban Dictionary has an appropriate page dedicated to the topic in question, other sources may be used instead (MySpace, link to a Google search result for the term, the topic's homepage, etc.).

Please note that such links do not necessarily reflect the original intent of the artist, but rather an educated guess about what he or she is most likely referring to.

In some cases, a single term or group of terms requires two links. In this case, simply add the following syntax after the first link. For example:

Ambiguous term 2

Here's the syntax:

[http://www.AmbiguousTerm1.com Ambiguous term] [http://www.AmbiguousTerm2.com 2]

What should be hyperlinked?

Any term or group of terms of particular interest or terms that could be considered ambiguous by some listeners deserves to be highlighted. For example, I consider myself an astute listener, but until recently did not hear the following reference to Mariah Carey in the song The Supplier:

Shawty, I could carry you like Mariah

I found this line to be amusing and because the joke was not immediately obvious I deigned it worthy of a link to Mariah Carey's wikipedia page. But even those who caught the reference the first time might be interested to read about Mariah Carey's accomplishments. Note: I did say might. ;)

Photos

Photos can be inserted to complement the lyrics. Plain old text is too boring and Lil Wayne's lyrics are anything but boring. In other words, a little eye candy never hurts. To upload a file use the upload file link on the lower left hand side of the page in the "toolbox" which is below the search bae. Or just click here. Files should have a maximum length and/or width of 300px.

Once a file has been uploaded use this syntax to place it on the page:

[[Image:FileName.gif|right|alt text]] to place a photo named "FileName.gif" in the right margin with 'alt text' as description.

The fields in the pipes are optional and can go in any order. Read more about other fields that can be specified. However, most photos on this site will be aligned to the right and should be re-sized prior to uploading. The syntax noted above should suffice in most cases.

What photos to include?

Any photo that helps illustrate a term or set of terms from the song in question can be uploaded provided the use of the image does not violate fair use laws.

Comments

Each song should have a space at the bottom for comments and analysis

Creating New Pages

New pages can be created by clicking on a red link. Right now, a great place to start would be to click on an album title or mix tape title and complete that page by inserting the songs and creating links. Once the songs are in place, you can begin to add lyrics.

If you search for a page that doesn't exist (using the search box and 'go' button on the left of the page) then you will be provided with a link to create the new page. (Note that this technique doesn't work if you use the 'search' button).

Creating New Templates

Templates have been created to summarize album songs as well as mix tape songs.

There is also a template called 'Q', short for question, to signify a question or unknown term.

Templates are needed to summarize entire albums, entire mix tapes, and each song should have, at the end of the entry, links to other songs on the same album should or mix tape.
